Project: Westminster Bridge, London
Client: Metcraft Lighting / TfL
Westminster Bridge is a road and foot traffic Grade II* listed bridge over the River Thames between Westminster on the north side and Lambeth on the south side. It was opened to traffic on Queen Victoria’s birthday 24 March 1862 when she turned 43 years old.
Barwin carried out repairs and decoration works to 17 ornate green lighting columns, which are the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons. The decorative cast iron columns were restored to their original appearance and now match the rest of the bridge. Gold leaf and paint were also applied to match the main bridge fascia replacement works.
Scope of works:
- Removal of coatings
- Repairs
- Specialist coatings, including gold leaf
- Scaffolding
