Brickwork

Barwin developed a method to undertake brick refacing resulting in many cost effective and successful contracts. The standard achieved in this field has even allowed our methods to be used and approved by English Heritage and conservation bodies. Stone and Brick Cleaning

We are fully approved certified users of TORC and DOFF systems by Stonehealth. We are also experts in chemical cleaning; nebulous sprays/multiple spray systems; cuprid poultice removal of copper or bronze staining; grit blasting; chemical and poultice stripping and high- and low-pressure abrasive cleaning.

TORC system cleaning

The TORC system is a complete stone cleaning system, designed and sold exclusively by Stonehealth. It’s an evolution of the Jos system that was introduced to the market over 20 years ago.

TORC removes carbon sulphation, lime & cement based paints, paint residues, some old oil based paints, bitumen and limescale.

Coatings and Graffiti Removal

Graffiti can be seriously damaging to the structure of the building fabric and aesthetics.

Barwin provide comprehensive graffiti and coatings removal services: biodegradable paint softeners, TORC and DOFF system coatings removal, blast cleaning, poultice-based treatment depending on the type of brick or stonework.

To help protect the building surfaces from graffiti damage recommend applying an anti-graffiti coating. This seals the pores of the brick or stone surfaces enabling the graffiti to be easily removed.

Bronze Cleaning & Restoration

Barwin carry out the restoration of bronze statues and monuments when the original patina has deteriorated.

Using techniques such as TORC or DOFF systems, we remove deterioration, oxidation and corrosion. Re-patination is then carried out in the traditional manner to restore the original patina.

Finally, we apply a wax coating with soft burnishing brushes and the statue is buffed between applications of protective Microcrystalline wax.

Abseiling

Barwin offer ‘rope access method’ cleaning, repair and decorating solutions as well as surveys, to provide a time saving and cost-efficient alternative to costly scaffolding or powered (cherry picker/scissor lift) access.

Our technicians are trained and experienced in many different skills to provide a comprehensive service ranging from the smallest cleaning or repair tasks through to complete façade refurbishment of building blocks. We produce detailed surveys, contract specifications and site inspection reports followed by a written quotation. 

All contracts undertaken by Barwin are comprehensively covered under the company’s Employee and Public liability insurance. No permit is required for height access by abseiling. Unlike scaffolding all abseiling equipment can be taken away when not in use or after a day’s work and doesn’t incur extra fees.

Grit Blasting

Grit blasting is a method of abrasive blast cleaning used to prepare or clean substrates for a wide variety of purposes. These range from cleaning brick and stonework to preparation of a substrate, such as steel or iron for subsequent painting of coatings.

Grit blasting is the most effective means for removing existing coatings and corrosion and here at Barwin, we work with the most up-to-date equipment and use many different blast medias to give the best results.

Bird Proofing Systems 

We can advise, provide and install bird proofing systems to your building or monument. 

Birds can cause problems including leaving lots of droppings behind, they smell, and are noisy and unsightly. Prevention is better than cure as they can be extremely hard to get rid of once nested. 

Netting provides an excellent deterrent, stopping birds from accessing and nesting in the area you want protected. This works well for balconies, roofs, and so on. Spikes are also a great option for areas that cant be netted, which prevent the birds from perching.
